Customers with Exchange Server 2013, 2016 or 2019 can install the next version of Exchange Server in their existing Exchange organization. But Microsoft has increased the number of versions that can be installed in parallel. However, this was already the case in previous versions. The next version of Exchange Server is expected to continue to support parallel deployment and migration from previous versions of Exchange. In EAC click on 'servers' category on the left side and then click on 'servers' pane. This feature allows administrators to easily upgrade existing servers running Exchange Server 2019 to the subscription-based code base without adding servers or moving mailboxes. The next version of Exchange Server will support in-place upgrades of Exchange Server 2019 for a period of about two years after release. The new version could be called Microsoft Office 2022, as we speculate here. Actually, the signs are on subscription versions a la Office 365 and Microsoft 365. I was a bit surprised, because Microsoft actually wanted to release Office 2019, the last version that is offered as an unlimited version. In the second half of 2021, Microsoft Office will be available in a new unlimited version for both Windows and Mac. Microsoft Office will also see a new perpetual release for both Windows and Mac, in the second half of 2021. In the Techcommunity article there is also a first reference to a revised Microsoft Office, which is not available as subscription version a la Office 365. The subscription entitles you to access support, product updates, security and time zone patches. These products are only available with the purchase of a subscription license – so the purchase versions are passé. Within this Techcommunity article Microsoft announces that the next versions of Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, Skype for Business Server and Project Server will be available in the second half of 2021.
